William Willimon

William Willimon

William Willimon is Dean of the Chapel and Professor of Christian Ministry at Duke University, North Carolina. He has been awarded honorary degrees by 6 universities and named as the first Distinguished Alumnus of Yale Divinity School in 1992. He is the author of fifty books. His Pastor: Theology and Practice of Ordained Ministry was selected among the ten most useful books for pastors in 2001 by the Academic Parish Clergy.

In 1996, an international survey by Baylor University named him one of the twelve most effective preachers in the English-speaking world. His articles have appeared in The Christian Ministry, Quarterly Review, Liturgy, Worship, and Christianity Today. He is an Editor-at-large for The Christian Century. He has served as Editor and Expositor for Abingdon's International Lesson Annual and has written curriculum materials and video for youth, young adults, and adults.

His Pulpit Resources is used each week by over eight thousand pastors in the USA, Canada, and Australia. He serves on the Editorial Boards of The Christian Century, Pulpit Digest, Preaching, The Wittenburg Door, and Leadership. William Willimon has lectured and taught courses throughout North America, as well as in Europe and Asia.

Lois Wilson

Lois Wilson

Lois Wilson was elected the first woman Moderator of the United Church in 1980. As a President of the World Council of Churches (83-90), she initiated the Ecumenical Decade of Churches in Solidarity with Women. Visiting extensively with partner churches in Latin America, Asia and Africa, she has participated in inter-faith engagements with the Jewish, Islamic, Sikh, Hindu, Jain and Buddhist faith communities in Canada and the world. Formerly an independent Senator, her numerous government appointments have involved human rights, international peace and security, refugees, and nuclear waste. Lois headed government delegations to China on religious freedom, and to North Korea prior to diplomatic relations (2000).

She has served on numerous community and university boards (Chancellor, Lakehead University; Chair, Canada - DPR Korea Assoc.), and was the only Canadian presenter at Harvard Divinity School's Women's Studies on "Religion and the Feminist Movement" in 2002. She is the recipient of numerous honorary degrees and the United Nations Association of Canada's Pearson Peace Prize.

Herbert O'Driscoll

Herbert O'Driscoll

Recognized as the best known and one of the most highly regarded preachers in the Anglican Church, Herbert O'Driscoll is a former urban Cathedral Dean in Vancouver, B.C., and former Warden of the College of Preachers, Washington National Cathedral. He is the author of 30 books, including A Doorway in Time, a reflection of his own Celtic spirituality, and Emmanuel, written while in the Holy Land.

Herbert O'Driscoll is former rector of Christ Church in Calgary, a native of Ireland, and an Anglican priest in Canada. He is widely known for his workshops on preaching and the spiritual life.

Sharon Betcher

Sharon Betcher

Sharon Betcher, on staff at Vancouver School of Theology, received her Master of Divinity degree from Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN and both a Master of Philosophy and a Doctorate with distinction from the Graduate School of Drew University in Madison, NJ. She was Adjunct Professor at Drew Theological Seminary and Graduate School. She has also worked in several pastoral ministry positions in Minneapolis, MN within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). She has published a number of articles, book reviews and papers and is an avid public speaker.

Ron Klusmeier & Sheelah Megill

Ron Klusmeier & Sheelah MegillRon and Sheelah offer concerts, workshops, and worship leadership.

Sheelah's original dramatic monologues for worship and study are published in two books: Your Faith Has Made You Whole and My Great Grandmother's House.

As a composer, Ron collaborates with authors Walter Farquharson (Cda), Ruth Duck (USA), Fred Kaan (UK), Brian Wren (USA), Shirley Erena Murray (NZ) and John Oldham (Cda). He has hundreds of selections published by over 75 denominations and publishing companies worldwide. Voices United, the hymnbook of the United Church of Canada, contains more hymn tune compositions by Ron than by any other contributor. In Canada, his compositions are also included in Anglican, Presbyterian, and Roman Catholic hymnbooks.

Nancy Reeves

Nancy Reeves

Nancy C. Reeves is a clinical psychologist who has specialized in the area trauma, grief and loss for 25 years. She is a psychotherapist, director, author, poet, and has published 30 articles in professional journals and general magazines. She teaches graduate courses and retreats in grief and spiritual discernment in Canada, the U.S., Australia and New Zealand. Her recent books include: I'd Say Yes God, If I Knew What You Wanted, and Found Through Loss:Healing Stories from Scripture and Everyday Sacredness. Nancy was the recipient of the Victoria YM/YWCA Woman of Distinction Award—Health & Wellness category.

Mark MacLean

Mark MacLeanMark MacLean, Worship Program Officer for the United Church of Canada, has served the church through internships in Terrace, BC, Papua New Guinea and in Ordered Ministry throughout the Maritimes prior to his appointment to the General Council Offices of the United Church. His duties include supporting and resourcing worship leaders and participants in local communities across the church and nation.

Stephen Hatfield

Stephen Hatfield

Stephen Hatfield has had an accomplished career in literature, drama, and education, in addition to music. He studied electronic music at York University, later transferring to Specialized Honours English, where he won the Governor General's Gold Medal during research linking the arts with philosophy and physics. Stephen has developed curriculum for guitar, keyboard, stage band, steel band, reggae band, general music, and a cross-disciplinary program for performing arts majors. A national gold medalist for his concert choirs and vocal jazz groups, he has been composing for the Amabile Youth Singers and collaborating on the program, The Friends of Chamber Music. He continues as musical director, performer and composer for theatre productions. In 2002 his piece One Drop was selected outstanding choral composition by the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors.

Laura & Ross Lockhart

Laura & Ross Lockhart

Laura & Ross Lockhart are ordained pastors within the United Church of Canada currently serving in Dryden, Ontario. As Gen Xers themselves, they are passionate about communicating the gospel to people of their own generation who are often overwhelmed with 'conflicting' and 'powerful' anti-gospel messages in today's society. Ross is the author of Gen X, Y Faith? Getting Real With God, a book to be published by Wood Lake Books in September that attempts to connect Gen Xers story with God's saving story in Scripture.

Allan Saunders, Lead Minister, brings over 25 years of congregational experience in diverse settings ranging from rural to urban. Allan was President of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario Conference and recently received an honorary D.D. from Victoria University (Emmanuel College), Toronto. Allan's primary focus is in evoking new life in congregational mission, empowering lay ministry, and helping churches in crisis to move forward.

Fran Pollet, First†Met's Director of Music and Organist, spent 18 years as Director of Music at St. Matthias Church, Victoria. She was the Music Director for Grassroots Theatre Company and directed the Empress Hotel's Christmas festivities. Founding Music Director of The Linden Singers and active in the Downtown Churches Association's sponsoring of Taizé-styled worship, Fran also is a sacred music specialist for Long and McQuade.

Margaret Harper [was] First†Met's Minister of Pastoral Care & Outreach. An early association with the Prairie Christian Training Centre of the United Church in Saskatchewan shaped her call to ministry. She brings a wealth of insights in Pastoral Care through her hospital chaplaincy experience, CAPPE association, and congregational ministry in B.C., Saskatchewan, and Toronto.

Ann Maffey is Coordinator of the Health & Wellness Ministry at First†Met. This ministry takes a realistic look at health issues in a holistic way. Ann brings over 30 years of nursing experience, and a specialized interest in community and geriatric nursing.

Megumi Matsuo Saunders, a third generation Japanese Christian, has been an educator for over 25 years with particular interests in Christian Education, cross-cultural learning, global women's concerns, and mission education. She has taught at the University of Winnipeg and Balmoral Hall school, Winnipeg. In her Children, Youth and Family ministry, she sees how the interaction of generations can enrich and enliven a faith community.
