The Bells for Peace Campaign marks the 75th anniversaries of the bombing of Hiroshima, August 6, and Nagasaki on August 9. Vancouver Island communities will join in bell ringing and “making a righteous noise” at the time of dropping of the bombs. Individuals are invited to take a moment to reflect.

• First Met will ring its bells on Thursday, August 6 and Sunday, August 9, joining other church bells, hand bells and other appropriate devices rung across Vancouver Island at the time of the bombs: 8:15 a.m. on August 6 and 11:50 a.m. on August 9.

Everyone is invited to take part in an online educational event: Thursday, August 6, at 12 noon, a live Zoom presentation with a question and answer period on the current nuclear weapons threat, nuclear weapons and religious faith, and the environmental consequences of nuclear weapons.
