Emerge: A Metamorphosis Moment

The butterfly has long been a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus. In this series, we will consider the process of metamorphosis as a guide to examine our own transformations from cocoons and tombs to the unfurled beauty of all God calls us to be.

Coming out as people and as a church from what we have known into a new identity is filled with anxiety and unknowing. Emerging will take effort and surrendering to “the assurance of things hoped for” even though we cannot yet see what the future holds.

This series is a metaphor for our personal transformation as well as the process we are undergoing as we work to amalgamate with Broad View United Church.

The weeks of the series are:

April 23: “Tombs and Cocoons: Trusting the Dark.” Scripture: John 20: 1-18 [Rev. Al Fowler, Guest Preacher]

April 30: “Coming Out: Leaving Comfortable Places.” Scripture: Hebrews 11:1-3

May 7: “Open: Into the Light.” Scripture: Luke 24: 28-49

May 14: “Unwrap: Waking Up.” Scripture: John 11: 1-44

May 21: “Unfold: Claiming New Possibilities.” Scripture: Matt 16: 13 – 20

May 28: “Journey: The Places We Will Go.” Scripture: Acts 2: 1-4 Pentecost Sunday

June 4: “Let Go: Leaving Behind What We Don't Need.” Scripture: Exodus 16

June 11: “Fly: Daring New Heights.” Scripture: Mark 2: 1-5

We will follow the conclusion of the series with a celebration of Aboriginal Day of Prayer on June 18.
