We, as a church and a community, must find a way to go into the new year with open hearts and faithfulness. This January 16 to February 27 we will be following the “God is Holding Your Life” series in our Sunday services.

Coming off the heels of Advent, our theme for the first weeks of the new year will be to let go into the care of God those things that we cannot control. There is already so much uncertainty in our lives, so this series will be focusing on familiarity and repetition, as those concepts are important to establishing healthy rituals.

The anchor image for this series is cupped hands. This image symbolizes open mindedness, as well as “a place where we are held and can hold our concerns, our anxieties, and our insecurities.” We encourage you to follow this imagery in a tangible way by setting up a bowl or basket at home in which to place your prayers during the service and throughout the week.

You might also consider adopting cupped hands in your prayer posture to symbolize letting go into God.

The themes for each week are:

Jan. 16 - Week One: These Lives Are Precious
Jan. 23 - Week Two: Awe and Wonder
Jan. 30 - Week Three: Where Can I Go?
Feb. 6 - Week Four: In God Alone
Feb. 13 - Week Five: Whole Heart Hallelujah
Feb. 20 - Week Six: We Wait, We Hope, We Stay [Guest Preacher: Rev. Ingrid Brown]
Feb. 27 - Week Seven: The One Is Shining Forth [Guest speaker: Constance Barnes]
