On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we join as a United Church of Canada community as part of our ongoing pledge towards reconciliation in the wake of our history of colonization and residential schools.
This brief vigil will begin with the tolling of sanctuary bells and intersperse readings with sacred silence and close with a litany of commitment.
Participants may then wish to head to Royal Athletic Park to attend the 2nd annual South Island Powwow. Grand Entries of First Nations are at noon and 6 pm. See the September newsletter for more information.
Orange Shirt Day: We want to encourage folks to wear their orange shirts on the Reconciliation Day (Sept. 30) and also when you come for worship on Sunday, Oct. 1, as this is part of the Reconciliation weekend. You can find a variety of styles of shirts around Victoria, just make sure that they are from an Indigenous artist and that the funds go to an Indigenous organization.
