It’s nearing that time of year again when we think of exchanging gifts and sharing special seasonal activities with our friends and families. This year, due to the COVID19 pandemic, we have to celebrate the joy of this season in smaller ways, but we still will celebrate.

But for those who are part of the Our Place family, Christmas is not always a joyous time. Many of these folk are not in touch with their families and can find the Christmas season a cold and lonely time. Because of the pandemic, there is more homelessness, and other challenges, among the Our Place family members.

We have an opportunity, with the Angel Gifts program, to share some warmth, and friendly greetings, with the Our Place family. The Angel Gift that you give might be the only gift that person receives. Those who have received Angel Gifts in past years have been very moved by the generosity and caring that come with the gift. This year, the Angel Gift project seems more important than ever.

Because of COVID restrictions, the way we give Angel Gifts this year had to be modified to meet safety protocols. One change is that there will not be “angel cards” handed out as in past years. Instead, donors will need to sign up in advance if they wish to give a gift. Once this pre-registration is completed, donors will be sent their recipients’ information (name, age, size, gender & gift number) by email or regular post if the donor does not have email. They also will be sent a “pandemic version” of the ‘Instructions for Donors’ handout; it includes all deadline dates.

Because some people will not feel comfortable during this pandemic time with shopping for and wrapping gifts, there is another option. You may send a cheque or money order directly to an Our Place bank account that is designated only for Angel Gifts.

Volunteers will do the shopping and wrapping. There is a specific protocol for monetary donations and the deadline for these donations is November 9. These donors also are being asked to sign up and then they will be sent the instructions for the procedure.
