First Met was blessed to host successful community barbecues July 24, 31 and Aug. 7, serving up more than 100 burgers, veggie burgers, buns and outdoor snacks each day for neighbours in the North Park community.
Lexi, Chanel, Jesse and Josh from the St. Aidan's United Church summer students program provided energy, guidance and experience in staging BBQ's for large groups. The students also provided attractive posters and information on top of their know-how and sense of adventure.
"It was wonderful to meet people from our 'hood in this setting," says Rev. Shelagh MacKinnon, First Met's Lead Minister.
Thanks to all the volunteers, especially Penny Bond, who did lots of shopping and communicating. And thanks to St. Aidan's and Rev. Cheryl Black for their generosity! Many people generously contributed to this BBQ so that we were able to freely invite folks to come as our guests.
